Online screen recorder
Record your screen, a window or a tab right in your browser, with your microphone and computer audio if you want them, then save the video. Free, with nothing to install, no sign-up and no watermark, and nothing is uploaded.
You'll choose a screen, a window or a tab next. Nothing records until you do.
Your recording never leaves this device: it's made in your browser.
How to record your screen online
- 1
Set it up
Choose whether to record your microphone and computer audio, then a size and frame rate. 1080p at 30 fps suits most recordings.
- 2
Pick what to share
Press Start recording and your browser asks which screen, window or tab to share. Nothing records until you choose.
- 3
Record
After a three-second countdown, do what you came to do. Pause when you need a moment, and press Stop and save when you're done.
- 4
Download it
Watch it back, then download the file. It stays on your device, and it's gone from the page when you leave.
Tips for a clean screen recording
A few minutes of setup saves a retake.
Share a window, not the whole screen
It keeps other apps and desktop notifications out of the video, and the text comes out bigger.
Quiet your computer first
Turn on Do Not Disturb, close tabs you don't want seen and hide the bookmarks bar.
Make the window smaller
A window about 1280 pixels wide keeps text readable when someone watches on a phone.
Move slowly, pause before clicking
It looks calmer, and it gives you room to cut later.
Test your sound
Record ten seconds and play it back before the real take. Get close to the microphone, in a quiet room.
Record in short takes
Short takes are easier to redo and to cut together. For a full plan, read how to make a software tutorial video.
No recording needed
Or have AI record, narrate and edit it for you
A screen recording shows everything at once, in one take, in your voice. SayScreen makes a tutorial of your web app without you recording at all: describe the lesson and its AI drives a real browser through your app, then narrates and edits the video with zooms, a gliding cursor and captions. See the tutorial video maker.
Reading a script as you record? The free online teleprompter scrolls it for you, and the script timer tells you how long it'll run.
Frequently asked questions
Use this page in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on a computer. Press Start recording, pick what to share in your browser's dialog, and when you stop, download the video. There's no app or extension to install, because recording the screen is built into the browser.
No. There's no account, no email address and nothing to pay. Open the page and record.
There's no watermark and no limit set by us. A long recording does use your computer's memory and disk until you download it, so for anything over about an hour, stop and save in parts.
No. Your browser records on your device and the download link points to a file in the page's memory, so the video never goes to SayScreen or anyone else. That also means it's gone if you close the tab before downloading, and the page warns you first.
Yes. Your microphone and computer audio are separate switches, and if you use both they're mixed into one track. Computer audio depends on the browser: Chrome and Edge can capture a tab's sound, and on Windows the whole system's, if you turn on the audio option in the share dialog. Firefox and Safari record the microphone only.
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a computer. Chrome and Edge also offer the most choice in what to share, including single tabs with their sound.
Not with this page: browsers on phones and tablets don't let websites capture the screen. Use the recorder built into your device: Screen Recording in Control Center on an iPhone or iPad, or Screen record in Quick Settings on Android.
MP4 in Chrome, Edge and Safari, which plays almost everywhere. Firefox records WebM, which plays in browsers and most video apps; convert it to MP4 if something won't take it.
On a Mac, your browser needs permission under System Settings, Privacy & Security, Screen & System Audio Recording. Some sites and apps also block capture of protected video, which shows as black. Try sharing a different window, or the entire screen.
No, this tool makes a plain recording. To have those added for you, SayScreen makes a narrated, edited tutorial of your web app from one sentence, with no recording at all.
