- 3
Start and read
Press Start or Space. After a three-second countdown the text scrolls; read the line inside the band.
- 4
Pause and adjust
Click the text or press Space to pause. The arrow keys change the speed and step back or forward.
Tips for reading to camera
A teleprompter keeps the words in front of you. These habits keep it from looking like you're reading.
Put the text next to the lens
Place the prompter window right under your webcam so your eyes stay close to the camera while you read.
Keep lines short
A narrower line width means your eyes move less from side to side, which looks more natural on camera.
Write it the way you talk
Short sentences and everyday words are easier to read aloud. Time the script first with the script timer.
Rehearse once at speed
Do one run-through and adjust the speed until you're reading comfortably, not chasing the text.
Look up between sentences
Read a phrase ahead, then glance at the lens as you finish it. Pauses are the natural place to do it.
Keep your hands free
A presentation clicker or a wireless keyboard can start, pause and step back without you leaning in.
No camera needed
For product tutorials, skip the camera altogether
SayScreen is a tutorial video maker for your web app that needs no camera, no microphone and no script to read. Describe the lesson in a sentence: the AI drives a real browser through your app, writes the narration and reads it aloud in a stock voice or your own cloned voice.
Frequently asked questions
Paste your script under Edit script, switch back to Prompter, and pick a speed and text size. Press Start or the Space bar: after a three-second countdown, the text scrolls past the reading line, and you read the line inside the band. Click the text or press Space to pause, and use the arrow keys to change the speed or step back.
Start near your natural speaking pace: about 140 to 150 words per minute for most people, a little slower for tutorials and other on-screen explanations. Adjust it as it runs with the up and down arrow keys; the time left updates as you go.
No. It scrolls at the speed you set, so it never asks for the microphone, and nothing you say or type leaves your browser.
Turn on Mirror so the text reads the right way round in the glass of a beam-splitter teleprompter, and Flip if your rig shows it upside down. Go full screen, and control it with a keyboard, a presentation clicker or a tap on the screen.
Most clickers send the Page Down and Page Up keys. Press Start once (that also gives the prompter the keyboard focus); after that, Page Down pauses and restarts the scroll, and Page Up steps back.
Yes. Tap the text to start and pause; where the browser allows it, the screen stays awake while the text scrolls. Full screen works on Android and iPad. Safari on iPhone doesn't offer full screen for web pages, so turn the phone sideways and scroll until the prompter fills the screen.
Type [pause] where you want to stop for a beat; it shows up as a small PAUSE cue in the text. Blank lines start a new paragraph, which gives you a natural place to breathe.
In this browser only. The teleprompter and the script timer share it, so you can time a script there and read it here. It's never uploaded; to remove it, clear the text under Edit script.
Yes. There's no sign-up, no time limit and no account; it runs entirely in your browser.
