How to edit a design with Brush AI in Canva
Brush is Canva's AI model for editing a design you already have. It changes only what you ask for and keeps your layout and content, rather than generating a new design from scratch. This video opens a pitch deck made from a free template, switches Canva AI from Core to Brush, and gives it two instructions: shorten every slide title, then restyle the deck in a warm sunset palette. After each one, a title is edited by hand to show the slides are still normal, editable Canva designs. Brush is on Canva Pro for now.

Steps
- Open Canva AI from the side panelWith a design open in the editor, Canva AI is where you chat with the AI about that design.
- Open the model menu below the prompt boxIt's set to Core, the all-round design model, by default.
- Choose BrushBrush edits the design that's open instead of generating a new one, and keeps your layout and content.
- Type your first instruction and send itThe video asks: "Make every slide title shorter and punchier." Brush changes the titles, reports what it did and leaves the rest of each slide alone. It also says the shorter titles now look a bit small, and offers to fix that.
- Go to a slide and double-click its titleThe result is still a live text box, not a flattened image.
- Type a new titleThe video changes Our Fix to Our Answer, and it keeps the same font and size.
- With nothing selected, ask Brush to restyle the whole deckThe video asks: "Restyle this deck in a warm sunset color palette." All ten slides get cream backgrounds, plum titles and orange accents, while photos, layout and your edits stay put.
- Open another slide and double-click its titleEven after a full restyle, the title opens straight into text editing.
- Edit the title to check it's still editableThe video changes The Opportunity to The Big Opportunity, and the new word picks up the sunset color and font.

0:00Here's a pitch deck I made from a free Canva template. Let's use Brush, Canva's new AI editing model, to rework this design without starting over.
0:09Open Canva AI from the side panel, this is where you chat with the AI about the design that's open.
0:16Down by the prompt box is the model menu, currently set to Core. Open it to switch models.
0:24Core is the all-around design model. Choose Brush, the latest and fastest model built for editing. Here's what makes Brush different. Instead of generating a brand-new design from a prompt, it works on the deck you already have, changing only what you ask for and keeping your layout and content.
0:42First instruction: let's tighten up the copy. Ask Brush to make every slide title shorter and punchier, and send it. Brush reports back on what it changed. Every title is now shorter, like The Problem, Our Fix, and Competition, and the rest of each slide was left alone.
1:05Let's check the result is still a normal Canva design. Jump to slide three, which now reads Our Fix. Double-click the word Fix in the title. It's a real, live text box, not a flattened image.
1:20Type a new title, like Our Answer, and it updates right on the slide with the same font and size.
1:27With nothing selected, the next instruction applies to the whole deck. Ask Brush to restyle it in a warm sunset color palette. Done. All ten slides now use cream backgrounds, deep plum titles, and ember-orange accents, while the photos, layout, and our earlier title change stayed put.
1:50Let's confirm everything is still editable after the restyle. Open slide four, The Opportunity. Double-click the title. Even after a full restyle, it opens straight into text editing.
2:05Change it to The Big Opportunity, and the new word picks up the same sunset plum color and font. That's Brush: you pick it from the model menu, describe the change you want, and it edits the deck you already have, so every slide stays fully editable.
