SayScreen vs Screen Studio
One polishes a recording you make. The other makes the recording, and the narration, from a brief.
Screen Studio
Screen Studio is a Mac app you record with. You press record, do the thing, talk into your mic if you want, and it turns that take into a polished video: smooth cursor, automatic zooms on your clicks, a rounded window on a nice background, 4K export. It is very good at that. It does not write anything or speak anything; the voice is yours or there is none.
SayScreen
SayScreen is a web app you brief. You give it a page address and a sentence, it reads the page, writes the narration, shows you the script, then records the walkthrough with an AI voice, a moving pointer, camera moves and captions. You never record, speak or edit. The finished look is deliberately close to a Screen Studio export.

Pick Screen Studio when
- You want your own face or voice in the video.
- The thing you are showing is not a web page: a native Mac app, a terminal, an iPhone app.
- You want fine control over every zoom and cut.
Pick SayScreen when
- You do not want to record, speak or edit at all.
- You are on Windows, Linux or a locked-down machine.
- You need many short walkthroughs of web pages and they go stale often.
- You want narration in a language you do not speak.
What SayScreen makes
From the brief “Spin up a new project in Northwind and connect it to an API key.” Nothing was edited afterwards. Read what the voice says.
Questions
Is SayScreen a Screen Studio alternative?
For narrated walkthroughs of web pages, yes. For recording yourself using any app on a Mac, no; Screen Studio is the better tool and SayScreen does not record your desktop at all.
Does SayScreen run on Windows?
Yes. It is a web app, so it runs in any browser on any system.
Can I use both?
Some people do: SayScreen for the help-centre walkthroughs that change every release, Screen Studio for the launch video with their own voice on it.
Where do these facts come from?
Screen Studio's own site, read on the date shown at the bottom of the table. If something has changed, tell us and we will fix it.
