Comparison

SayScreen vs Synthesia

Synthesia and SayScreen both generate video with AI, from different raw material. Synthesia renders a presenter (an AI avatar speaking your script, in many languages), and real product footage comes from a screen recording you make. SayScreen's footage is your actual web app, recorded by an AI that clicks through it, then narrated and edited. Choose Synthesia for presenter-led training at scale; choose SayScreen for click-by-click software tutorials.

Synthesia or SayScreen: which should you choose?

Choose Synthesia if…

  • You want a presenter on screen without filming anyone: stock avatars or a personal avatar
  • You need the same video in many languages: 70+ on self-serve plans, 140+ on Enterprise
  • Your videos are talks, policies or onboarding explainers rather than software walkthroughs
  • You need SCORM packages for an LMS (Enterprise)

Choose SayScreen if…

  • You need the real product on screen, click by click, without recording it yourself
  • You want zooms, a cursor and captions that follow each step automatically
  • You want to refresh a tutorial after a redesign by re-running the same prompt
  • You want to download every video, even during the trial

Where Synthesia and SayScreen differ

What's on screen

A Synthesia video is built from scenes: an AI avatar, text, media and any screen recording you add. Its free AI Screen Recorder captures a tab, window or screen while you talk, then splits the take into scenes and removes filler words. A SayScreen video is your web app, operated by an AI in a real browser, with the narration timed to each action.

Languages and voices

Synthesia translates videos into 70+ languages on its self-serve plans and 140+ on Enterprise, with 1,000+ AI voices and voice cloning. SayScreen narrates with natural AI voices, or your own cloned voice.

Editing

Synthesia's editor works scene by scene, and zoom and pan are effects you add. SayScreen edits automatically (camera moves, cursor, click highlights, captions) and lets you change a line, drop a step or change the look, then re-render.

Pricing

Synthesia runs on credits (about 100 per minute of video). Basic is free with 10 minutes a month, a watermark and no downloads; Starter is $19 a month ($14 billed yearly) and Pro $89 ($59 billed yearly). SayScreen is $1 for your first 7 days, then $29 a month for 30 videos, up to 10 minutes each.
