SayScreen

Comparison

SayScreen vs Descript

Descript is an editor first: you record your screen, camera or podcast, then cut it by editing the transcript, with AI voices, Studio Sound and an AI co-editor called Underlord. SayScreen starts one step earlier: describe the lesson, and its AI clicks through your web app in a real browser, writes and voices the narration and edits the video. Choose Descript to edit what you record, including podcasts and talking-head video; choose SayScreen when you'd rather not record a software tutorial at all.

Descript or SayScreen: which should you choose?

Choose Descript if…

  • You make podcasts, interviews or talking-head videos as well as screen recordings
  • You like editing by text: delete words in the transcript and the video follows
  • You want a free plan to start: 1 media hour a month, with a watermark at 720p
  • You need dubbing into 30+ languages or AI avatars (Business plan)

Choose SayScreen if…

  • You don't want to record or narrate: the AI performs the steps in your web app and voices them
  • You want to refresh a tutorial after a redesign by re-running the same prompt
  • You want zooms that follow the action, a gliding cursor and captions without editing by hand
  • You're making a library of tutorials with one consistent look and narrator

Where Descript and SayScreen differ

Who records

In Descript you record your screen, webcam, microphone and system audio with its Mac or Windows app or in the browser, then edit the take. SayScreen's AI drives a real Chrome browser through your web app from a short description, and you watch it work.

Editing

Descript turns the recording into a transcript you edit like a document; Underlord, its AI co-editor, takes requests, and filler words come out automatically. SayScreen edits for you: zooms that follow each step, a gliding cursor and captions, and you change a line of the script to have it re-voiced and re-timed.

Voice

Descript cleans up your own voice with Studio Sound, and its paid plans add AI Speech with custom voice clones. SayScreen writes the narration from what it does on screen and reads it in a stock AI voice or your own cloned voice.

Pricing

Descript's Free plan has 1 media hour a month and 720p exports with a watermark; Hobbyist is $24 per person a month ($16 billed yearly), Creator $35 ($24) and Business $65 ($50). SayScreen is $1 for your first 7 days, then $49 a month for 60 minutes of video, up to 8 minutes each.
